United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says that the world has lived under the nuclear shadow for more than eight decades and that future generations must not.

“Let’s replace threats with dialogue, arms racing with arms control, paralysis with concrete action, and choose a future free from nuclear weapons,” Guterres wrote in a post on X. The remarks did not refer to any particular conflict.

Guterres has been the UN chief since January 1, 2017, and his decade-long mandate ends on December 31 this year, with a successor yet to be named, reports AL Jazeera.
