Reopen closed media outlets for employment for jobless journalists

Anti-Fascist Oppressed Journalists Forum held a rally in front of the National Press Club on Saturday.



Dhaka: Journalists at an event called for reopening the media houses, which were Reopen closed media outlets for employment for jobless journalists  closed during the autocratic regime and ensure employment to jobless journalists.     

Journalists are facing severe financial crisis due to closure of media houses. Such a situation is a setback to the growth of mass media, they said calling for a media-friendly environment in the country.   

The journalists, who were affected during the past fascist regime, need financial and other supports, they observed.          

They made the observations while addressing a rally of journalists under the banner of ‘Anti-fascist Oppressed Journalists Forum’ held in front of National Press Club today (Saturday).     

The speakers called upon the authorities concerned for taking necessary steps for reopening the closed media outlets such as Dainik Bangla, Bangladesh Times, Bichitra, English daily the Independent, and extending long time loan facilities for the closed media outlets for helping the resumption of their publication.     

The rally was chaired by Mostofa Kamal Majumder, convenor of the forum and former editor of The Daily New Nation.   

Moderated by oppressed journalist Saharul Islam Rocky the rally was also addressed by ADM Saad Bin Rabby, member secretary of the forum and former head of News of Islamic TV and former assistant secretary general of BFUJ, Abul Kalam Manik, former news editor of BSS, Sakhawat Ibne Moin Chowdhury, chairman of Bangladesh Rural Journalists Association (BRJA), Sheikh Mohammad Tajul Islam, secretary general of BRJA, Khondker Kawser Hossain, former chief reporter of Bhorer Kagoj, DM Amirul Islam Amor, former office secretary of DUJ, among others, spoke at the event.
