Digital development for all
We are pleased to inform you that Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has been nominated for the WSIS Prizes 2026 under Action Line C9: Media for its initiative, “Engaging Journalists and Community Radio to Prevent and Respond to Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence.”
This initiative is being implemented under the project “Strengthening Resilience Against Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV) and Digital Development” as part of the Nagorikata: Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) program. The project is funded by Switzerland, Global Affairs Canada, and the European Union and is technically supported by GFA Consulting Group.
This nomination is a meaningful recognition of our collective efforts to strengthen the role of journalists, community radio, and local stakeholders in preventing and responding to TFGBV. It also reflects the importance of inclusive digital development, community-centered action, and rights-based approaches in addressing emerging forms of online and technology-facilitated harm.
The WSIS Prizes 2026 received a record-breaking 1,509 submissions from around the world. Following the UN Expert Group's review, 360 projects were nominated, with 20 selected under each of the 18 WSIS Action Lines. All WSIS stakeholders are now invited to participate in the public online voting process, which will remain open until 3 May 2026.
The WSIS Prizes provide an important global platform to recognize initiatives that use digital technologies to advance the WSIS Action Lines, contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, and support the objectives of the Global Digital Compact. The winning projects will be recognized during the WSIS Forum 2026, to be held from 6 to 10 July 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, co-hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Swiss Confederation.
