Seven illegal brick kilns fined Tk 22.50 lakh in Sherpur

The district administration fined seven illegal brick kilns a total of Taka 22.50 lakh and ordered their permanent closure following a mobile court operation in Nakla upazila of the district on Sunday.


The mobile court conducted the day-long raid led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Shubhagat Sarkar in different areas of the upazila and fined the brick kilns for operating illegally in violation of environmental regulations and without clearance from the Department of Environment (DoE).

Under the verdict of the mobile court, M/S FR Zigzag Bricks of Kursha Badagaid, M/S Chamak Bricks of Gaurdwar Ranigaon, M/S Seven Star Bricks of Chatugaon, and M/S Janani Zigzag Bricks of Dhanakusha were each fined Taka 3.5 lakh. M/S Suman Zigzag Bricks of Shibbari and M/S Sarkar Bricks of Bashati were fined Taka 3.3 lakh each, while M/S Region Bricks of Paiska was fined Taka 2.5 lakh.
 
In addition to the fines, all seven brick kilns were ordered to cease operations permanently.

Members of the army, police, fire service, and the Power Development Board were present during the operation to ensure its smooth execution.
    
The district administration said such drives would continue to protect the environment and enforce compliance with environmental laws, reports BSS.
