The janaza (funeral prayers) of six Bangladeshi soldiers, killed in a terrorist drone attack during a United Nations peacekeeping mission, was held on Sunday at Dhaka Cantonment.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the event in a press release.

The deceased personnel are: Corporal Md Masud Rana, ASC (Natore); Lance Naik Shamim Reza, Bir (Rajbari); Lance Naik Md Mominul Islam, Bir (Kurigram); Lance Naik Shanto Mondol, Bir (Kurigram); Mess Waiter Mohammad Jahangir Alam (Kishoreganj); and Laundry Worker Md Sobuj Mia (Gaibandha).

Brief biographies of the fallen soldiers were read out before the janaza, followed by special prayers seeking forgiveness for their souls. The soldiers were accorded state honors, after which helicopters transported their remains to their respective home districts.

The six peacekeepers were killed on 13 December in a terrorist drone attack on a UN peacekeeping camp in the Abyei area of Sudan. Nine other peacekeepers were injured; eight are currently receiving treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, and all are now reported to be out of danger.
