The announcement came following a meeting of the core committee on law and order at the Secretariat.
“We always call them [expats] remittance warriors, but they often do not receive the respect they deserve. In many places, the service is not up to the mark,” said the adviser.
Jahangir Alam said the authorities will no longer charge extra fees from remittance warriors. “We will standardise the passport fees.”
The adviser mentioned that the fee reduction will apply across all countries. “There isn’t just one country—there are many. We will assess the situation and reduce fees accordingly.”
He said the government is also working to improve the overall experience for expatriates, both in-flight and upon arrival at airports.
The Home Affairs Adviser returned home on Sunday following visits to Qatar and Italy, reports UNB.
