A vibrant two-day Robotics Festival began today at Dhaka University, aimed at inspiring technological innovation and nurturing a passion for robotics among students across different academic levels.
Organized by the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, the festival was inaugurated at the historic Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, setting the stage for a dynamic celebration of creativity and cutting-edge technology.
Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his keynote address, he emphasized the rapid pace of technological evolution in the modern world and urged students not to lag behind in adapting to these changes. “The world is changing rapidly with the evolution of technology. There is no way to stay behind in coping with the advancing world,” he said. Prof Mamun encouraged the young innovators to channel their skills towards meaningful and humanitarian purposes that drive positive social transformation.
Presiding over the ceremony, Dr Sejuti Rahman, Chairperson of the Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department, highlighted the importance of fostering creativity and practical skills through events like this fest. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof Dr Upama Kabir, also delivered a special address, underscoring the critical role of robotics in shaping future industries and economies.
The festival has attracted an impressive turnout, with around 900 students forming 200 teams from 50 educational institutions nationwide, including schools, colleges, and universities. Participants are showcasing an exciting array of projects spanning robotics design, automation, artificial intelligence applications, and innovative mechatronic solutions.
Through competitions, workshops, and exhibitions, the fest provides a valuable platform for young minds to experiment, collaborate, and gain hands-on experience. Organizers hope the event will spark increased interest in STEM fields and encourage students to pursue careers in robotics and related technologies.
The two-day festival promises to be a vibrant hub of innovation, collaboration, and learning — reflecting Dhaka University’s commitment to fostering the next generation of technology leaders.
