Shahbuddin Chuppu elected 22nd President of Bangladesh

Md Shahabuddin Chuppu, a retired judge and former commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), has been elected unopposed the 22nd President of Bangladesh.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal made the announcement on Monday.
February 13 was the day to scrutinise nomination papers.  As Md Shahabuddin Chuppu was the only candidate, so he has been elected unopposed, the CEC said.
On April 24, President Md Abdul Hamid’s term will expire.  According to Article 123 of the constitution, the presidential election must be held 60 to 90 days before the expiry of each five-year term.
