
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain on Saturday said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been closely monitoring the overall flood situation in Chattogram since the disaster began and is directing relief efforts to ensure assistance reaches the affected people.
Speaking at a relief distribution programme in the Rashidar Pukurpar area of Nazirhat Municipality in Fatikchhari upazila, the state minister said the Prime Minister is fully aware of the situation on the ground and the urgent needs of flood victims.
"The Prime Minister has been monitoring the situation since the onset of the disaster. He knows where assistance is needed and has instructed us to ensure that essential support reaches those affected as quickly as possible," he said.
Earlier in the day, Iqbal Hossain visited several flood-hit areas in Fatikchhari, where he inspected erosion along the Halda River and distributed relief materials among affected families.
He said the Prime Minister has been providing continuous guidance since the flooding began and instructed authorities to assess the needs of the affected people and take appropriate measures.
"He is monitoring the flood situation around the clock. Yesterday, the Prime Minister directed me to visit the affected areas, assess the people's needs and report back. Following his instruction, I am here today," the state minister said.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to standing beside people affected by natural disasters and providing all necessary support.
"The government will continue to provide every possible assistance to ease the suffering of flood victims. Necessary measures will also be taken to rehabilitate those affected," he said.
Iqbal Hossain added that the local administration and relevant government agencies were working in coordination to manage the flood situation and accelerate relief operations.
Among others, MP Sarwar Alamgir, Fatikchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sayed Mohammad Ibrahim, local BNP leader Zahir Azam Chowdhury, public representatives and administrative officials attended the programme.
Following the event, the state minister distributed relief materials among flood-affected families and inquired about their condition.
