Actor Afran Nisho stunned onlookers at the Gulshan Shooting Club on Thursday afternoon when he arrived dressed as a prisoner to promote his upcoming film, Daagi. Sporting long hair, a full beard, prison attire labeled ‘786’, and handcuffs, Nisho was escorted by two men posing as police officers in a police van. The dramatic entrance, reminiscent of a convict’s post-sentencing appearance, added a striking touch to the film's promotional campaign.

Daagi, set for release this Eid, marks Nisho's return to the silver screen after two years. The film is his second feature, where he portrays a convicted criminal, following his breakout role in Surongo.

At a press conference for the film, director Shihab Shaheen removed Nisho’s handcuffs on stage. Nisho explained the promotional stunt, saying, "Inspired by innovative campaigns abroad, I wanted to appear as a prisoner. Audiences will see me as a ‘Daagi’ (marked criminal) this Eid in theatres across the country."

Shaheen, who also wrote the film's screenplay, described Daagi as a story of redemption. "It’s a tale of love, separation, and repentance," he said, adding, "The film explores the lifelong impact of imprisonment and the healing power of forgiveness, which is a core principle of both religion and humanity."

The press conference also featured actresses Tama Mirza and Sunerah Binte Kamal, actor Gazi Rakayet, and actress Monira Mithu, along with producers Shahriar Shakil of Alpha-I Entertainment and Redoan Rony of Chorki. The film, shot in Syedpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka, also stars Shahiduzzaman Selim, Gazi Rakayet, Mili Bashar, Rashed Mamun Apu, and AK Azad Setu.

Produced by SVF, Alpha-I Entertainment, and Chorki, the film’s title track, sung by Afran Nisho, was released earlier this week. The song, written by Russell Mahmud and composed by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi, features a performance by Nisho alongside Nidhi.

With several major films releasing this Eid, including Shakib Khan's Borbaad, Siam Ahmed's Jongli, and Mosharraf Karim's Chokkor 302, producers Shahriar Shakil and Redoan Rony expressed excitement about the industry’s growth. "It’s a joy that audiences will have the choice of seeing their preferred films in 150 theatres nationwide," they said. The official theatre list for Daagi will be announced on the night of Chand Raat, ahead of Eid.
