176 Bangladeshi Migrants Repatriated from Libya
A total of 176 Bangladeshi nationals stranded in Libya have returned home with the assistance of the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The group arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning via a Buraq Air flight. Officials said many of the returnees had entered Libya irregularly, often through human traffickers, hoping to reach Europe by sea.
Authorities noted that some migrants had endured abduction and abuse during their stay in Libya. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with representatives from relevant ministries and the IOM, received the returnees at the airport.
The ministry urged the returnees to share their experiences publicly to raise awareness and prevent others from falling victim to similar trafficking schemes.
The IOM provided each returnee with travel allowances, food supplies, basic medical support, and temporary shelter where needed.
Bangladesh’s foreign ministry, in coordination with the Embassy in Tripoli, the Expatriates’ Welfare Ministry, and the IOM, continues efforts to ensure the safe repatriation of other Bangladeshi nationals currently detained in various Libyan detention centers.
