Govt. to Take Steps to Strengthen Bangladesh Betar: Info Secy
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana has announced that the government will implement comprehensive measures to strengthen Bangladesh Betar, recognizing its vital role in connecting people across the nation.
“The government is committed to enhancing Bangladesh Betar, as it plays a key role in reaching people’s doorsteps,” she said, speaking at a discussion and cultural event marking World Radio Day 2025 at Bangladesh Betar Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Farjana highlighted that Betar is a crucial source of social, academic, religious, and moral education, underscoring its significant role in society. She also noted that World Radio Day, observed annually on February 13 since its declaration by UNESCO in 2011, celebrates radio's impact on global communication.
Special guests at the event included UNESCO Representative in Bangladesh Dr. Susan Vize and Additional Secretary (Broadcasting) Dr. Mohammad Altaful Alam.
Farjana emphasized this year’s World Radio Day theme, "Radio and Climate Change," which encourages radio stations to focus on climate-related issues in their coverage. She pointed out that, with frequent cyclones, floods, and droughts, Betar is often the primary source of information for remote communities during disasters.
Earlier, Farjana honored Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, father of July martyr Farhan Faiyaj, and M. Masudur Rahman, who was injured in the Savar uprising. Bangladesh Betar's Additional Director General (Programmes) delivered the welcome address, with Director General ASM Zahid presiding over the event.
