Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has assured to take steps over report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar-Runi.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has assured to take steps over report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar-Runi.

The minister made the assurance when the leaders of Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ) went to hand over a memorandum to him in this regard at the secretariat on Wednesday (February 15).

Assuring the journalists, the Home Minister said, “The investigation report of the Sagar-Runi murder will be submitted soon.”

In view of the demands of the journalists, the Home Minister said the investigative agency is continuing its efforts to collect relevant information about this (Sagar-Runi) murder. Releasing an investigation report without proper evidence may lead to distrust. I hope the investigation agency can release the report sooner.

A delegation led by DUJ president Sohel Haider Chowdhury and general secretary Aktar Hossain met the minister. A memorandum was given on behalf of the organization with four point-demand.

On February 11, 2012, journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi were brutally murdered in their rented house in West Rajabazar in the capital. Sagar Sarwar was news editor of Masranga Television while Meherun Runi was senior reporter of ATN Bengal. Their four-and-a-half-year-old son Mahir Sarwar Megh was in the house while they were being killed.
