The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is investigating 59 cases related to the July Uprising, with authorities examining evidence and allegations in phases due to the complexity of the incidents.

DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said the investigations are progressing carefully as many of the cases involve a large number of accused and extensive evidence.

“Each case involves numerous suspects, so we are verifying their locations, roles and forensic evidence step by step,” he said during a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Thursday.

He said investigators are analysing around 40GB of data linked to the cases and are working to ensure that only credible information is included in the investigation reports.

“We are handling the cases with utmost importance and aim to ensure maximum punishment for those found guilty within the framework of the law,” Shafiqul said.

He described the cases as highly sensitive and said multiple monitoring mechanisms have been introduced to ensure transparency and accuracy.

A dedicated cell at the DMP reviews the progress of the investigations every 15 days, while another monitoring unit at Police Headquarters also examines the cases.

The DB chief said cases filed with ulterior motives would not be supported and assured that only those found responsible based on evidence would be included in charge sheets.

He also acknowledged challenges, including analysing large volumes of data, identifying suspects and verifying conflicting allegations.

“We are thoroughly verifying all aspects to ensure that only accurate and credible information is reflected in the investigations,” he added.
