People run for cover following an Israeli strike that targeted a building in the Bureij camp for Palestinian refugees in the central Gaza Strip on 19 October 2025.

At least 45 people were killed in a series of Israeli air strikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency and hospital officials, who updated an earlier death toll of 33.

The Israeli military said it had targeted dozens of Hamas sites throughout the enclave, as both sides accused each other of breaching the nine-day-old ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump.

Mahmud Bassal, spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defence agency, said the attacks struck multiple areas, leaving dozens dead and many others wounded. Hospitals in Gaza confirmed the fatalities, saying they had received bodies and injured victims from several locations.

Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat reported 24 deaths and 73 injuries following multiple strikes in central Gaza. Al-Aqsa Hospital received 12 bodies from nearby bombings, while Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis confirmed five deaths. Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City reported four additional fatalities.

Bassal said six people were killed when an Israeli strike targeted a group of civilians in Zuwaida town in central Gaza. Another six, including children, died in two separate attacks near Nuseirat, where 13 others were wounded.

A woman and two children were killed when a drone hit a tent sheltering displaced people near Asdaa City, north of Khan Yunis. Two people, including a journalist, were killed and several injured in a strike on the western side of Zuwaida.

Another airstrike on a tent in the Al-Ahli Club area of Nuseirat killed two more people, while two others died in eastern Jabalia in the north. One person was killed in a strike on an apartment building in western Gaza City.

Several of the wounded later died from their injuries, raising the overall death toll to at least 45, the civil defence agency said.

The Israeli military said it was reviewing reports of casualties but later announced that it had resumed enforcement of the ceasefire in Gaza.
