Nat'l Tea Awards given in 8 categories marking Tea Day

Dhaka, May 21: Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin presented the National Tea Awards 2025 in eight categories to various institutions and individuals in recognition of their special contribution to the country's tea industry. In addition, two special awards were given in the category of the highest tea producing factory this year.

Commerce Advisor presented these awards on Wednesday at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on the occasion of the fifth National Tea Day. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government is working to increase tea exports by meeting the country's domestic demand. The tea industry should be promoted equally in the domestic and international markets.

He said that if we can achieve balanced distribution, the national wealth tea industry can be protected from the vicious cycle. Coordinated steps should be taken to utilize the potential of this industry. The Advisor said that by bringing discipline by stopping various types of customs and tax mismanagement in the tea industry, stability and fairness in product prices can be established in the market.

The advisor also said that the tea industry needs proper use of land. In this regard, attention should be paid to renewable energy or tourism centers and other issues. The prosperity of tea gardens should be ensured. For this purpose, joint efforts of tea workers and owners are needed. The production cost of tea should be reduced and the selling price should be increased. He mentioned that the diversification and attractiveness of tea products should be increased.

The program, chaired by Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, was also attended by Bangladesh Tea Board Chairman Major General Sheikh Md. Sarwar Hossain, Tea Traders Association of Bangladesh President Shah Moinuddin Hasan, Bangladeshi Tea Parliament President Kamran T Rahman, National Tea Award 2024 winner tea worker Jasmine Akhter, and acting president of the Tea Workers Union Nripen Pal. – from PID Handout
