Internet blackout dropped from July events: Farooki
The government has dropped the previously announced symbolic ‘One-Minute Internet Blackout’ programme which was part of the upcoming July Commemoration events, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has said.
In a post from his verified Facebook account on Thursday, Farooki disclosed the decision saying there had been internal debates from the beginning regarding this specific initiative.
“From the start, we had mixed feelings about one particular segment of the July commemoration programmes. We excluded and included the ‘one-minute internet blackout’ several times. It might not be a very good idea,” he writes.
“After extensive discussions, the programme was reinstated. When large scale events are planned and big teams work together sometimes such things slip through the cracks,” he adds.
The Adviser also expressed gratitude for the public feedback received regarding the internet blackout idea, reports UNB.
“For your information, after an emergency internal meeting, we have decided to cancel the one-minute symbolic internet blackout programme. Updated slides reflecting the changes would be shared,” he adds.
“All other programmes will remain unchanged. Let’s reconnect, regroup, and reignite the true spirit of July,” Farooki writes.
