Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday voiced deep concern over the increasing use of harmful chemicals in food and the resulting threat to public health, calling for a coordinated national effort to confront the problem.

“We know the many ways food is being contaminated. We must decide how to address this. Our children, parents, and loved ones are all affected. For our own sake, we must work together to overcome this crisis,” he said.

He made the remarks while chairing a meeting at the state guesthouse Jamuna focused on measures to curb food adulteration and reduce health risks linked to dangerous chemicals.

Participants reviewed the spread of foodborne diseases, the risks posed by contamination, and the steps needed to counter the crisis. Yunus stressed the urgency of taking swift action, noting, “We will evaluate implementation options and decide which steps must begin immediately.”

He instructed relevant authorities to submit written proposals within a week outlining the actions required to tackle the contamination problem.

Advisers from agriculture, home affairs, food, health, fisheries and livestock, as well as senior officials from national standards, consumer protection, food safety, and atomic energy agencies attended the meeting.
