Ad-din Medical College Hospital has decided to provide Tk80 lakh in compensation to each family of the six infants who died following an incident at the hospital in Dhaka.

The decision was reached jointly during discussions between hospital authorities and the families of the deceased children, senior Supreme Court lawyer Shishir Monir said on Sunday.

He said the benefits and support measures announced earlier for the affected families would remain in place. In addition, both sides agreed that each family would receive Tk80 lakh in compensation.

The deaths of the six newborns came to light on 27 May, the day before Eid-ul-Azha, sparking widespread concern and calls for accountability.

Earlier, hospital authorities provided an official account of the incident. According to officials, the infants — who had been in a post-operative ward — suddenly developed breathing complications in the early hours of the morning and were moved to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) around 6:00am.

Two of the babies were declared dead after being taken to the NICU, while the remaining four were reported to be in critical condition and placed on ventilator support. Despite intensive efforts by doctors in the neonatal intensive care unit, all six infants later died.
