Sports Adviser urges vigilance against nepotism, corruption in football selection.
During a courtesy meeting on Wednesday at 2:30 pm with national football team newcomer Hamza Choudhury at the Nagar Bhaban in Dhaka, Bhuiyan addressed recent allegations of syndicates and the exclusion of Fahmidul, which have been circulating on social media.
Bhuiyan stated, “The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) must remain vigilant to ensure that no player is subjected to nepotism or the influence of syndicates during the selection process. Should any evidence of corruption arise, the government will not hesitate to take strict action against those involved.”
Tabith Awal, president of the BFF, also participated in discussions with the sports adviser regarding the current challenges facing Bangladesh football. The two leaders discussed ways to address the crisis and take steps to improve the sport in the country.
Following the meeting, Bhuiyan urged the BFF to implement stronger measures to resolve the ongoing issues and propel Bangladesh’s football forward. He also expressed confidence that the national team's performance would improve with the addition of Hamza Choudhury, wishing the team success ahead of their upcoming match against India.
“I believe Hamza’s inclusion will give the team a much-needed boost in confidence. I am hopeful that with his presence, Bangladesh will secure a victory,” Bhuiyan added.
In response to the ongoing concerns about player selection, Tabith Awal assured that there is no room for syndicates within the federation. “Every player will be given a fair opportunity based on merit. Should any evidence of malpractice surface, the federation will take immediate action,” Awal said.
He further clarified the situation regarding Fahmidul’s exclusion, stating, “This is not a crisis. Fahmidul is a talented player, but we felt he needed more time to develop. With Bangladesh set to play a home match in June, it’s very possible we will see him on the field soon.”
Both officials emphasized their commitment to transparency and fairness in the footballing process, aiming to ensure that only the best and most deserving players represent the national team.
