Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the biggest stars in Portuguese football history, has married his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez, after nearly a decade together.
The couple reportedly tied the knot on Tuesday (11 August), marking the end of their long-term relationship without marriage. Renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on social media.
After the wedding ceremony, Ronaldo shared a photograph on his verified Facebook page showing the newlyweds holding hands with their wedding rings visible on their fingers. The couple's wedding invitation had sparked speculation on social media in recent days.
Ronaldo and Georgina began their relationship nearly 10 years ago. Over the years, they built a family together, with Georgina supporting Ronaldo throughout the ups and downs of his career.
In previous interviews, Ronaldo had said that the couple were waiting for the right time to get married and would formalise their relationship when they felt the moment was right.
In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, Ronaldo recalled the moment he proposed to Georgina. He said he proposed late at night in a simple and private setting rather than through an elaborate arrangement.
According to Ronaldo, he received a ring from a friend and decided not to wait any longer before asking Georgina to become his life partner. Their two children unexpectedly entered the room during the emotional moment and witnessed the proposal.
The Portuguese football star currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. As he begins this new chapter of his personal life, Ronaldo has received congratulations from fans and teammates.
Ronaldo and Georgina have been living together since 2016.
