Diplomats stationed in Dhaka and Bangladeshi government officials took to the football field today in a friendly match at Dhaka Army Stadium, underscoring the role of sports diplomacy in fostering friendship and strengthening people-to-people ties.

The match, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Bangladesh Football Federation, featured a Diplomatic Corps team against a side comprising officials from the two ministries and former national footballers.

The Diplomatic Corps team included representatives from Brunei Darussalam, China, Indonesia, Italy, Iran, Malaysia, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Sweden and Vietnam.

The event was held under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry’s newly established Cultural and Sports Diplomacy Wing, which aims to promote sports as a platform for enhancing mutual understanding, friendship and engagement between Bangladesh and the international community.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque attended the opening ceremony.

Ambassadors, high commissioners, foreign diplomats, senior government officials, former national footballers and representatives from various ministries were also present.

Played in a spirit of camaraderie and goodwill, the match reflected the shared commitment of Bangladesh and its diplomatic partners to deepening bilateral relations through cultural and sporting exchanges.

At the conclusion of the event, the two state ministers presented mementos to members of the Diplomatic Corps team in recognition of their participation.
