The body of another youth, swept away by flash floods in Sherpur district, was recovered early Friday, raising the flood death toll to two.

The deceased was identified as Ismail Hossain, 17, son of Abdullah Mia of Tamagaon area in Jhenaigati upazila.

Locals found his body around 1am from the Maharshi River in Tamagaon, nearly 11 hours after he went missing.

Ismail was washed away by strong currents around 3pm Thursday while trying to collect firewood drifting with the floodwaters.

Officer-in-charge of Jhenaigati Police Station Al-Amin said the youth drowned after being swept away in the swollen river.

Earlier on Thursday night, the body of 10-year-old boy Humayun was retrieved from the Chellakhali River in Nalitabari upazila, six and a half hours after he went missing while also collecting firewood, reports UNB.

With these two incidents, flash floods claimed two lives in Sherpur’s rivers within a day.
