A devastating fire broke out in Dhaka's Mohakhali Sattola Slum in the early hours of March 12, sparking widespread panic as flames engulfed the area. The fire, which started around 3:40 a.m., was successfully brought under control after nearly two hours of relentless efforts by the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).

According to Anwarul Islam, the warehouse inspector at the FSCD's media cell, five firefighting units were initially dispatched to the scene, and three more units joined shortly after to assist in containing the blaze. The firefighters faced significant challenges due to the densely packed slum area, but their swift action ensured the fire did not spread further.

The fire was finally contained by 5:20 a.m., with no further escalation. However, the cause of the fire and the exact extent of the damage remain unknown at this time. Emergency services are still on-site, working to assess the full impact of the incident, and investigations are underway to determine how the fire started.

While the damage caused by the blaze is yet to be determined, early reports suggest that several homes in the slum were damaged, with families potentially losing their belongings. The local authorities have yet to provide an official report on any casualties, though the situation remains under close observation.

The Sattola Slum, home to many vulnerable families, has seen similar incidents in the past due to overcrowded living conditions and limited access to fire safety resources. Local officials are calling for a review of safety measures to prevent future disasters, particularly in densely populated urban areas like this.

Residents and local volunteers have begun efforts to assist those affected by the fire, offering temporary shelter and food to those displaced by the incident. The local government has promised to provide support to the victims, and relief efforts are underway to help those in need.

As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, officials are urging residents to stay vigilant and report any hazards or safety concerns in their communities. The incident highlights the urgent need for improved fire safety measures in slum areas to protect lives and property from similar tragedies in the future.
