A fire broke out at the factory of Drug International Pharmaceuticals in Tongi, Gazipur, on Wednesday morning, prompting 16 Fire Service units to work to bring the blaze under control.

The fire started at around 10:20am on the fourth floor of the factory's four-storey building, according to a senior Tongi Fire Service official.

The flames quickly spread to a warehouse storing raw materials used in pharmaceutical production and nearby areas.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving the alert and began efforts to extinguish the fire. Additional units were dispatched as the intensity of the blaze became apparent.

The incident raised concern among residents in the surrounding areas.

The cause of the fire, the extent of the damage and whether anyone was injured or killed were not immediately known. Further details are expected once the fire is brought under control and the situation is assessed.
