A day after a devastating fire tore through the Kalshi slum in the capital, survivors were seen sifting through the charred remains of their homes on Tuesday (May 26), searching desperately for anything that could still be salvaged.
The blaze has reduced entire clusters of makeshift dwellings to ashes, destroying homes, furniture, and everyday essentials of multiple families.
What once stood as shelters now lies in smouldering ruins and twisted debris.
Under the open sky, many of the affected families are now living in inhumane conditions, taking shelter beside the wreckage of their former homes.
With belongings lost and no clear place to go, they remain beside the ashes—silent, stunned, and uncertain about the future.
Firefighters brought a massive blaze under control at the Kalshi slum in the capital’s Pallabi area on Monday night, deploying 15 units and 123 personnel in a prolonged operation. - UNB
