Bangladesh declares 10-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday

The government has announced a 10-day holiday from 5 June to 14 June on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, allowing holidaymakers to enjoy an extended break.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the decision in a post on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday.

As part of the plan, government offices will remain closed for the extended holiday but will open on Saturdays—May 17 and May 24—to compensate for the time off.

The decision was finalised during a meeting of the Advisory Council held at the Secretariat on Tuesday with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair.

Earlier this year, the government declared a nine-day holiday from March 28 to April 5 for Eid-ul-Fitr.

Initially, a five-day break had been announced, but an additional day was added through an executive order.

The Eid-ul-Fitr holiday followed the national holiday on 26 March, Independence Day, with offices open for only one day—Thursday, 27 March—before the extended break commenced.

The 10-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday is expected to facilitate travel and family gatherings, allowing citizens across the country to celebrate the festival with their loved ones, reports UNB.
