PM Orders Stricter Action Against Polythene, Plastic Use

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday ordered law enforcement agencies to take stricter action to curb the unchecked use of polythene and plastic in a bid to control environmental pollution.

He also directed the ministries, departments and agencies concerned to properly discharge their responsibilities in enforcing measures against the use of polythene and plastic.

The Prime Minister gave the directives at a review meeting on controlling environmental pollution at the Secretariat in the morning.

The meeting reviewed progress in implementing various government initiatives to control environmental pollution and discussed future measures, including increasing the use of environment-friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil and noise pollution, and improving waste management.

Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Robiul Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Saimum Parvez, among other senior officials, attended the meeting.
