The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of the 12kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder by Tk 19 at the retail level. As per the new rate, consumers will now pay Tk 1,431 for a 12kg LPG cylinder, down from Tk 1,450 in April. The revised price came into effect at 6:00 pm on Sunday.

Announcing the new rate at a press conference in Dhaka, BERC Chairman Md Jalal Ahmed said that all LPG marketing companies would have to implement the updated price from Sunday. The regulator also revised the price of autogas, cutting it by Tk 0.83 per litre. The new rate stands at Tk 65.57 per litre, down from the previous rate of Tk 66.41.

The BERC chairman explained that the adjustment was made in line with international market movements, particularly referencing the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP), which has seen a reduction in the official selling prices of both propane and butane for the month of May. Consequently, the price of LPG marketed by the private sector has been re-adjusted, bringing the consumer-level price, including VAT, to Tk 119.24 per kilogram.

With this readjustment, the prices of cylinders of different sizes have also been revised accordingly. The newly fixed rates apply to all private sector LPG cylinders, effective immediately. The changes reflect the government's ongoing effort to align domestic prices with global market trends and ensure fair pricing for consumers.
