Bangladesh and Algeria have agreed to explore the formation of a joint working group to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector, alongside the possibility of high-level ministerial exchanges to deepen bilateral engagement.

The commitment was made during a courtesy call by Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani on Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Thursday, according to an official press release.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the outcomes of the recent Bilateral Consultations held in Algiers on February 4, 2025, and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing friendly relations.

They emphasized the need to bolster economic cooperation through increased business-to-business interactions, proposing virtual meetings, exchange of trade delegations, and participation in trade fairs hosted by both countries.

The discussion also touched on expanding collaboration in a range of sectors including agriculture, education, scientific research, air connectivity, media, sports, and culture.

Both parties expressed satisfaction over the progress on several sectoral Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreed to expedite their finalization.

Further discussions included promoting bilateral investment, removing trade barriers, and considering agreements on investment protection and the avoidance of double taxation.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to maintain regular dialogue and work closely to advance mutual interests and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
