He made this statement after meeting with British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, at the EC headquarters in Dhaka.
During the meeting, High Commissioner Cooke expressed the United Kingdom's support for the consensus-building and reform process to ensure a fair and inclusive election environment.
In response to a question from reporters, CEC Nasir Uddin explained that the British delegation had come to discuss the EC’s preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections. "They were keen to know the current stage of our preparations and what steps we are taking," he said.
The CEC emphasized that since the election must be held by December, preparations are being made in accordance with this timeline. "To meet the December deadline, we need to announce the election schedule by October. We are taking every measure to ensure we stick to this timeline," he added.
Nasir Uddin also shared that the British High Commissioner had inquired about election observers. "We provided details of our ongoing activities, such as voter registration and the upcoming notification for party registration. Procurement processes are also underway, as some tasks require six to seven months of preparation."
The CEC further stated that the policies regarding election observers will be reviewed. While the foreign observer policy may remain unchanged, the local observer policy will be revised. "The process of appointing observers will begin in due time," he added.
After learning about the EC's progress, the British High Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the preparations.
