Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed announced on Sunday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed satisfaction with the recent strides made in Bangladesh’s economic development.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the visiting IMF delegation at the Secretariat, Dr. Ahmed revealed that the IMF team had acknowledged the positive direction in which the country’s economy is progressing.

"The IMF team has observed that Bangladesh’s economic trajectory is on track," Dr. Ahmed said, highlighting the international financial body’s confidence in the country's growth.

On the subject of future disbursements from the IMF, the Finance Adviser shared that Bangladesh is optimistic about receiving both the fourth and fifth tranches of the loan simultaneously.

Dr. Ahmed also mentioned that during their discussions, the IMF delegation stressed the importance of increasing the country's tax-to-GDP ratio, recovering defaulted loans, and pushing forward with essential banking sector reforms.

“The IMF team is closely monitoring the progress of the reforms outlined in the loan programme, which are crucial for the nation’s sustained economic growth,” Dr. Ahmed added.
