Bangladesh’s economy could reach $677 billion by 2030, surpassing the economies of Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand in terms of gross domestic product (GDP), according to a projection by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The projection was highlighted in a report titled “The $150 Trillion Global Economy in 2030” published by Visual Capitalist.
According to the IMF forecast, Malaysia’s GDP is expected to reach $672.5 billion in 2030, while Vietnam’s economy could reach $667.5 billion. Thailand’s GDP is projected at $647.5 billion. Bangladesh, with a projected GDP of $677 billion, would therefore rank above all three countries.
The figures are based on the countries’ nominal GDP.
The United States is projected to remain the world’s largest economy in 2030, with its GDP reaching around $37.7 trillion. China is expected to retain the second position with an economy of about $26 trillion.
The race for third place is projected to be particularly close. Germany and India are expected to have GDPs of $6.178 trillion and $6.173 trillion, respectively, a difference of only about $5 billion. The United Kingdom is projected to have a GDP of $5.148 trillion.
The United States, China, Germany, India and the United Kingdom are projected to account for 53.3% of global GDP in 2030. Japan, France, Brazil, Italy and Canada are also expected to remain among the world’s 10 largest economies.
The IMF has projected continued expansion of the global economy over the next four years. According to its World Economic Outlook projections, the global economy could expand by nearly $25 trillion between 2026 and 2030.
The global economy is projected to exceed $150 trillion by 2030.
