Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 200,000 yaba tablets and arrested two Rohingya nationals in separate anti-narcotics operations in the Ghumdhum and Baishphari border areas in Naikhongchhari upazila here.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of Cox's Bazar 34 BGB Battalion conducted a special drive at Jamaler Gher, about 200 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar No. 32, around 9 pm on Saturday.

During the operation, the team arrested two Rohingya nationals and recovered 10,000 yaba tablets from their possession.

The arrestees were identified as Md Islam, 25, son of Md Hossain, of Block B/81 of FDMN Camp-8, and Md Mojibullah, 23, son of Md Jalil, of Block B/74 of the same camp.

In a separate operation, a special patrol team of Baishphari Border Outpost (BOP) recovered 190,000 yaba tablets abandoned at Madhyapara, about 100 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar No. 35, around 4 am today.

None claimed ownership of the consignment, the BGB said.

Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway, and steps are being taken to hand them over to police.

Cox's Bazar Battalion Commander Lt Col SM Khairul Alam said BGB remained committed to preventing drug trafficking and smuggling while maintaining border security.

He added that such operations would continue to curb cross-border drug smuggling and protect the country's youth from the devastating effects of drugs, reports BSS.
