BGB seizes 110,000 Yaba tablets, arrests two in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 110,000 Yaba tablets and arrested two suspected drug smugglers during a special anti-narcotics operation on the Naf River in Teknaf upazila early today.
The estimated value of the seized narcotics is around Tk 3.30 crore, according to a BGB press release issued this afternoon.
Acting on intelligence information, that a large consignment of Yaba would be smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar through the Naf River, BGB conducted the operation in the area under the jurisdiction of Sabrang Border Outpost (BOP) of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) at 1:30 am.
At about 3:00 am, the team detected a boat entering Bangladesh from Myanmar through technical surveillance. As BGB personnel chased the vessel, the smugglers jumped into the river in an attempt to evade arrest.
BGB members apprehended two of the smugglers, while another managed to escape by swimming back to Myanmar under the cover of darkness.
The arrested men were identified as Jus Mohammad, 30, a resident of Kutupalong FDMN Camp-2 in Ukhiya, and Mohammad Ilias, 37, a resident of Alikhali FDMN Camp-5 in the same upazila, reports BSS.
The arrested suspects, along with the seized Yaba tablets, are being handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station after filing a regular case, the release added.
