Sylhet,  3 Mar – Police in a drive arrested two people in connection with their involvement in violating an indigenous woman from Kalairag village in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet district on Monday.

The arrestees were identified as Pradeep Das, son of Lalit Das and Alauddin, son of Abdul Hashim of the upazila.

They were sent to jail after appearing before the court on Monday, said police.

An indigenous woman was reportedly abducted from her village by the arrestees and taken to a forest along Dhalai River on Sunday evening.

Later, she was raped by Pradeep. Alauddin also tried to violate her but she managed to flee the scene after spraying sand on his face.

A case was filed with Companiganj Police Station on Monday, said Uzayer Al Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station.

After getting a complaint, police arrested the duo.
