Dengue: 5 more die, 1,034 hospitalised in 24hrs

Health officials today said they recorded 1,034 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts, killing at least five persons in the past 24 hours.


"We recorded deaths of five dengue patients in 24 hours ending at 8 am today," a spokesman of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said adding his office simultaneously recorded 1,034 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts during the same period.

According to the DGHS statistics of the five people, three died in areas with purview of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), one in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and one in Mymensingh districts.

"Out of the 1,034 fresh cases, 134 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, 103 in Chattogram division, 188 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 171 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 200 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 55 in Khulna division, 66 in Mymensingh division, 79 in Rajshahi division, 33 in Rangpur division and five in Sylhet division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 307 deaths while the disease inflicted 76,026.

The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country, reports BSS.
