Two more die of dengue, 279 hospitalised in 24hrs

Dhaka, Sept 13 — Two more deaths were reported from dengue in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 147 this year.

The deaths were reported under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During this period, 279 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, bringing the total number of cases to 37,206 so far this year.

According to the DGHS, new cases were reported as follows: 45 in Barishal Division (outside city corporation), 84 in Chattogram Division (outside city corporation), 42 in Dhaka Division (outside city corporation), 33 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 64 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 9 in Mymensingh (outside city corporation), and 2 in Khulna Division (outside city corporation).

Currently, 720 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, while a total of 1,722 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country.

The report also said that 60.1 percent of the patients were men, while 39.9 percent were women.

From January 1 to September 13 this year, a total of 37,206 people have been infected with dengue, with men accounting for 60.1 percent of the cases and women 39.9 percent.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people. 

The DGHS recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries during the same period. - UNB
