
Eight more people died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths associated with measles symptoms and confirmed measles cases to 1,122 this year.
Of the total, 1,020 deaths were reported among people with measles symptoms, while 102 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the figures in its regular health bulletin on Saturday.
According to the bulletin, all eight deaths recorded in the past 24 hours occurred in Dhaka. During the same period, 1,153 new patients with measles or measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country.
Dhaka recorded the highest number of new admissions at 444, followed by Chattogram with 224, Sylhet with 158, Barishal with 138, Khulna with 73, Mymensingh with 49, Rangpur with 39 and Rajshahi with 24.
According to DGHS data, a total of 173,024 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15. Of them, 167,756 have been discharged after receiving treatment.
Since March 15, the number of suspected measles cases has reached 195,197, including 21,666 confirmed cases.
