Two die with measles symptoms in Khulna division

Two children died with measles-like symptoms in Khulna division during the past 24 hours, while 61 more children were admitted to hospitals across the division, health officials said on Saturday.


Acting Director of the Khulna Divisional Health Office, Md. Mujibur Rahman, confirmed the information.

According to the divisional health office, a total of 3,051 children have been admitted to hospitals with measles symptoms across the division's 10 districts between March 15 and Saturday noon. Of them, 113 cases were confirmed as measles infections, while 19 children died during the period.

The outbreak has been most severe in Kushtia District, where 1,126 children were hospitalised with measles symptoms.

Other affected districts include Jashore District with 384 hospitalisations, Magura District with 372, Khulna District with 372, Meherpur District with 176, Satkhira District with 127, Jhenaidah District with 183, Narail District with 136, Bagerhat District with 88, and Chuadanga District with 90.

Health officials said one child each died in Jhenaidah and Meherpur during the last 24 hours.

Among the newly admitted patients, 28 were hospitalised in Kushtia, 15 in Khulna, eight in Magura, seven in Meherpur and three in Chuadanga, reports BSS.
