Highlighting the objectives of the day, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu stated that due to its geographical location, Bangladesh carries a history of continuous struggle against nature. Its position along the coast of the Bay of Bengal, numerous internal rivers, the adverse impacts of climate change, and the pressures of a massive population collectively make Bangladesh one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
The Minister added that disasters such as cyclones, floods, tidal surges, river erosion, landslides, fires, and earthquakes remain unavoidable realities. He emphasized that when citizens are overwhelmed by these events, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief stands firmly by their side. The core objective of observing this day is to bring peace and relief to the people by ensuring the necessary preparedness to mitigate the suffering caused by natural disasters. – PID Handout
