Bangladesh and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation on environmental protection and sustainable development.

The MoU was signed in Tokyo on February 6 between Bangladesh’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, said a handout on Sunday.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md Daud Ali and Japanese Vice Minister for the Environment Kentaro DOI signed the memorandum on behalf of their respective governments.

The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in key environmental areas, including mitigation and adaptation, pollution prevention, waste management and biodiversity conservation, reports UNB.

Under the MoU, the two sides will promote the exchange of knowledge and experience as well as expand technical cooperation, based on mutual consent.
