Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury today thanked Malaysian employers for placing continued confidence in Bangladeshi manpower, highlighting expatriate workers' vital contribution to Malaysia's economy and Bangladesh's development.

He made the remark when the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur observed International Migrants Day and National Expatriates Day 2025 under the theme "Going abroad with skills, building the homeland with remittances", according to a message received here.

The programme included reading out messages from the Chief Adviser, the Foreign Adviser and the Adviser for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, followed by the screening of a documentary produced to mark the day.

To recognise expatriates' contributions and encourage their greater engagement in national development, the High Commission organised a discussion meeting, documentary screening, awards ceremony for expatriate Bangladeshis, a cultural programme and a raffle draw at the G Tower hall in Kuala Lumpur.

Presiding over the event, the High Commissioner Chowdhury expressed gratitude to expatriate Bangladeshis for strengthening the national economy through remittances and skills.

The High Commissioner also said effective arrangements have been made under initiatives of the interim government to enable expatriates to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming national parliamentary election.

He urged Bangladeshis living in Malaysia to participate through postal ballots and called upon expatriate professional, social and political organisations to assist in voter registration.

Speakers at the programme included Heba Abdel Latif, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Malaysia; Hariri bin Harun, Head of the Foreign Workers Unit of Malaysia's Social Security Organisation; Dato' Nathan K. Suppi, Vice President of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers; Dato' Rafiq, CEO of the Construction Labour Exchange Malaysia; Saidur Rahman Farazi, Chief Executive Officer of CBL Money Transfer Malaysia; and Rakibul Hasan, representing expatriate workers.

The speakers praised Bangladeshi workers for their professionalism and dedication, noting their significant contribution to Malaysia's economic growth.

They also said the Malaysian government, employers and relevant institutions are working closely with the Bangladesh High Commission to ensure workers' protection and welfare.

Marking the occasion, the High Commission honoured 23 individuals and institutions from different categories among expatriates living in Malaysia with commemorative crests and certificates, reports BSS.
