Algeria’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Abdul Wahab Saidani, visited the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday, engaging with senior journalists. This marked the first-ever visit of an Algerian diplomat to the Press Club.
The visit was arranged at the invitation of Press Club Secretary General Ayub Bhuiyan. During a courtesy meeting at his office, the ambassador met journalist leaders, including Mohammed Shohidul Islam, President of the Dhaka Union of Journalists, and Rafiqul Islam Azad, former President of Dhaka Reporters Unity, among others.
The discussions highlighted the long-standing relations between Algeria and Bangladesh. To strengthen ties between the two brotherly Muslim nations, the meeting focused on information exchange and future visits among senior media leaders from both countries.
Recalling the role of journalists during Bangladesh’s Liberation War, the Secretary General acknowledged their sacrifices to the ambassador.
Dr. Saidani also spoke about Algeria’s protracted struggle for independence from France and paid tribute to the historical contributions of the Algerian people. The discussion further touched upon Algeria’s historic sites, prominent figures of its independence movement, and contemporary political matters.
Later, the ambassador toured the Press Club’s library, media centre, lounge, and scenic lawn, engaging with senior journalists and exchanging views on various topics.
