A European Union (EU) pre-election observer team is set to arrive in Bangladesh on 22 September, ahead of the upcoming national polls.

Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, confirmed the visit on Thursday at a press briefing held at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon.

On the day of arrival, the EU delegation will meet with an election commissioner and senior officials of the EC Secretariat. Discussions will cover election preparations, the country’s political situation, and measures taken to ensure free and fair elections.

The delegation will comprise three foreign observers and four local observers. During their stay, the team will also hold meetings with political parties, civil society members, media representatives, and government officials.
