Transparency International Chairman Francois Valerian concluded his official visit to Dhaka yesterday.

During the visit, the TI Chairman talked about the country's democratic transition at a meeting, held at the Dhaka office of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) in Dhanmondi yesterday evening.

People from different communities including representatives from civil society, donor agencies, embassies, and other key stakeholders attended the event.

Noting his global and regional experiences on sustainable democratic transitions that rely heavily on grassroots participation and institutional accountability, Francois Valerian said, "Role of citizen engagement in resisting authoritarianism and promoting democratic values and accountable governance is crucial. We need to protect the role of the citizen."

Earlier, discussions were held on issues including the prevailing political context, indigenous rights, the fight against corruption, and the enduring power of people-led movements, reports BSS.
