Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus departed Dhaka this evening for a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing Bangladesh’s global engagement.

A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the Chief Adviser and his delegation left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 7:30 pm, confirmed Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

During the visit, Prof Yunus is scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty King Charles III and hold bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. He will also meet UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

In a notable acknowledgment of his international contributions, Prof Yunus has been nominated for the King Charles III Harmony Award 2025. The award recognizes his lifelong work promoting peace, sustainability, and harmony between people and the environment. It will be presented during a formal ceremony at St James's Palace in London on June 12.

The award is conferred annually by The King's Foundation, a UK-based charitable organization established in 1990 by then Prince of Wales, to honor individuals for their outstanding contributions to sustainable development and humanitarian causes.

While in London, Prof Yunus is also expected to meet the Secretaries-General of the Commonwealth and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), underscoring Bangladesh’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy.

As part of his public diplomacy efforts, he will deliver a keynote address at Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, on June 11.

The Chief Adviser is scheduled to return to Dhaka on June 14.
