Chapainawabganj, Apr 28 -Amid the commitment to exporting mangoes to China, a seven member delegation led by China ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen visited a mango orchard in Chapainawabganj on Monday.

At around 3pm, he toured the mango farm of local farmer Rafiqul Islam in Kendua village of Nachol upazila.

The delegation included Chinese importers.

Expressing admiration for the quality of mangoes in Chapainawabganj, the Chinese ambassador assured that the district's mangoes would be exported to China this year.

He also said that China would invest in mango processing in the region, raising optimism among local mango growers.

During the visit, Dr. Yasin Ali, deputy director of Department of Agricultural Extension and Saleh Akram, upazila agriculture officer,  were also present among others.

They believe that mango exports to China will boost the district’s economy and bring greater benefits to the farmers - which is almost a no-brainer.

According to the district's agricultural department, Chapainawabganj has 37,604 hectares of land dedicated to mango cultivation.

During Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's recent visit to China, Dhaka expressed interest in mango exports, with Beijing responding positively.

Later, the chief adviser's Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam said an opportunity has also been created for large-scale mango exports to China. - UNB
