Bangladesh and Mexico have marked an exciting milestone, as 2025 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This milestone presents an exceptional opportunity to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation.
María Teresa Mercado Pérez, Undersecretary (Deputy Minister) of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, made this statement during a meeting with Bangladesh's Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey at the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
Ambassador Mushfique proposed utilizing this special occasion to organize joint initiatives and celebratory events that reflect the growing friendship and collaboration between Bangladesh and Mexico. The Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico shared these details on Saturday.
During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing existing relations and identifying new avenues for cooperation. Ambassador Mushfique was warmly congratulated by María Teresa on the successful presentation of his credentials earlier in the week. The Mexican Deputy Minister reaffirmed her country’s commitment to deepening its ties with Bangladesh.
In addition to celebrating the diplomatic anniversary, the two sides discussed the upcoming 3rd Foreign Office Consultations (FOC), slated for late August or early September. The consultations will aim to strengthen engagement across diverse sectors, including diplomatic, economic, and cultural collaborations.
Ambassador Mushfique highlighted the importance of finalizing pending Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in key areas, including agriculture, defense, visa waivers, football, and the avoidance of double taxation. He also emphasized the growing economic and diplomatic exchanges between both nations and urged the need for opening a Mexican Embassy in Dhaka to facilitate smoother bilateral cooperation.
María Teresa assured Ambassador Mushfique of Mexico’s full support for these initiatives and reiterated her country's dedication to strengthening the partnership. Both sides expressed optimism about the future of Bangladesh-Mexico relations, emphasizing a shared vision for deeper engagement and collaboration in the coming years.
