Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to embark on a diplomatic tour to China, Thailand, and Japan, aiming to deepen ties and foster international cooperation. His visits are scheduled for March, April, and May, respectively, as part of his ongoing efforts to build stronger relationships with key global players.

Dr. Yunus is expected to depart Dhaka on March 26, following the country’s Independence Day celebrations. His first stop will be China, where he will engage in high-level discussions, including a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on March 28. This follows an invitation from the Chinese government, extended by Ambassador Yao Wen in August 2024, signaling the two countries' mutual interest in strengthening their partnership.

A senior official confirmed the visit to UNB, stating that preparations are in full swing. Dr. Yunus will also attend the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2025 in Hainan Province, China, from March 25 to 28. The event, with the theme "Asia in the Changing World: Towards a Shared Future," aims to foster international dialogue and cooperation on development, sustainability, and innovation. The BFA will host a diverse group of world leaders, top entrepreneurs, and scholars who will discuss pressing global issues such as inclusive development, sustainable growth, and the advancement of AI.

Possible Meeting with Indian PM in Bangkok
In April, Dr. Yunus will travel to Bangkok for the 6th Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), where Bangladesh is set to take over the chairmanship. The summit, which will take place on April 4, promises to be a significant moment for Bangladesh to reaffirm its leadership role in regional cooperation. There is also speculation that this summit could mark the first in-person meeting between Dr. Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a development that could further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.

Dr. Yunus has repeatedly emphasized the importance of Bangladesh's relationship with India, calling it vital for the future of both countries. In a recent BBC interview, he stressed that Bangladesh and India share intertwined fates and should continue to nurture their relationship. "We are always encouraging everything to happen in the best possible way," he said, describing India as an essential business partner for Bangladesh.

Japan Awaits Dr. Yunus' Visit
In May, Dr. Yunus will visit Japan, at the invitation of Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ikuina Akiko. He will attend the Nikkei 30th Future of Asia event in Tokyo on May 29-30, a prestigious gathering focused on Asia's economic and political future. Additionally, he has been invited to the Osaka Expo 2025, scheduled for later in the year. During his visit, officials are working to arrange a meeting between Dr. Yunus and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to discuss mutual cooperation.

These visits to China, Thailand, and Japan underscore Dr. Yunus' commitment to advancing Bangladesh's global presence and fostering international partnerships for sustainable development. Through these diplomatic engagements, Dr. Yunus continues to position Bangladesh as an active and influential player on the world stage.
